ChEBI

Chemical Entities of Biological Interest

Description

ChEBI is a database and ontology of molecular entities focused on ‘small’ chemical compounds of biological interest. The database currently contains >59,000 annotated entities and includes >21,700 lipid entities. All information contained in the database is free and available for download in several file formats and includes a unique and unambiguous name and identifier, chemical structure representation, extensive synonyms in several languages, cross-references to other databases and to the published literature, and additional information (e.g. formula, mass, electronic charge, SMILES and InChI). ChEBI incorporates an ontological classification, whereby the relationships between molecular entities or classes of entities are specified according to shared structural features and roles. ChEBI also provides BiNChE, an enrichment analysis tool for the ChEBI ontology.
