User-friendly lipidomic data analysis tool for a deeper interpretation in a systems biology scenario

Description

LipidOne is a web-based platform for quantitative lipidomics that helps interpret lipidomic data in a biochemical context and supports three key goals: biomarker discovery, pathway-level analysis and functional lipid profiling. It operates on three structural levels – lipid classes, molecular species and lipid building blocks (acyl-, alkyl- and alkenyl chains) – using harmonised nomenclature. At each level, LipidOne provides univariate and multivariate statistics (PCA/PLS), volcano plots and heatmaps to highlight discriminant lipids between experimental groups and to prioritise candidate biomarkers. Lipid pathways are represented as reaction-based networks that group lipids linked by biochemical transformations, helping users see how changing species organise into metabolic routes. The innovative Functional Lipid Analysis module compresses complex lipid profiles into a panel of curated indices describing structural, energetic and signalling functions of lipids. Enzymes associated with lipid changes are used to build predicted protein interaction networks, expanded to STRING-derived neighbours, providing a bridge from lipidomics to proteomics and transcriptomics.
