Comment typeDescription
Catalytic ActivityA phosphatidylcholine + H(2)O = 1,2-diacyl-sn- glycerol + phosphocholine. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15618226}.
Disruption PhenotypeNo visible phenotype under normal growth conditions, but mutant plants display decreased ABA sensitivity in seed germination, root elongation, and stomatal movement and have decreased tolerance to high salinity and water deficiency. Root hair elongation defects under low inorganic phosphate conditions. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15618226, ECO:0000269|PubMed:20507939, ECO:0000269|PubMed:20699393, ECO:0000269|PubMed:21525137, ECO:0000269|PubMed:23432399}.
FunctionNon-specific phospholipase C (PLC) which assumes major PLC activity during inorganic phosphate starvation. Substrate preference is phosphatidylcholine (PC), but can also hydrolyze phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) with lower efficiency. Has no activity toward phosphatidic acid (PA). Plays an important role in the supply of both inorganic phosphate and diacylglycerol from membrane-localized phospholipids during phosphate deprivation. May be required for lipid-derived signaling molecules that positively modulate abscisic acid (ABA) response and promote plant tolerance to drought and salt stresses. May be involved in brassinolide- mediated signaling in root development. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15618226, ECO:0000269|PubMed:20507939, ECO:0000269|PubMed:20699393, ECO:0000269|PubMed:21525137}.
InductionInduced by auxin, zeatin, salt and inorganic phosphate deprivation. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:15618226, ECO:0000269|PubMed:20507939, ECO:0000269|PubMed:21525137}.
SimilarityBelongs to the bacterial phospholipase C family. {ECO:0000305}.
Subcellular LocationCell membrane {ECO:0000305|PubMed:15618226}; Peripheral membrane protein {ECO:0000305|PubMed:15618226}.
Tissue SpecificityExpressed in root tips, cotyledons, on leaf margins, stems, young anthers and funiculus. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:20507939}.
