Comment typeDescription
Developmental StageAt late embryonic stages, highly expressed in hindgut. At larval stages, expression detected in fat body, anterior midgut and salivary gland.
Disruption PhenotypeFlies are viable and fertile with no noticeable behavior defects, but display reduced average weight. The size of the lipid droplets in larval fat bodies and the fat cells of young adults is significantly reduced, but exhibit ectopic lipid droplets in salivary gland and gut. Flies also display greatly reduced total glyceride levels and hypersensitivity to starvation.
FunctionIs a regulator of lipid catabolism essential for adipocyte differentiation. May also be involved in the central regulation of energy homeostasis (By similarity). Necessary for correct lipid storage and lipid droplets maintenance; plays a tissue-autonomous role in controlling lipid storage in adipocytes and in preventing ectopic lipid droplet formation in non-adipose tissues. May participate in phosphatidic acid metabolism and subsequently down-regulate lipogenesis.
Subcellular LocationEndoplasmic reticulum membrane ; Multi-pass membrane protein {ECO:0000255, ECO:0000269|PubMed:21533227}.
Tissue SpecificityWidely expressed, with highest levels detected in fat body, moderate levels detected in salivary gland, midgut and muscle, and weak expression detected in brain.
