Alternative ProductsEvent=Alternative splicing; Named isoforms=2; Name=1; IsoId=Q96PD7-1; Sequence=Displayed; Name=2; IsoId=Q96PD7-2; Sequence=VSP_020356;
Catalytic ActivityAcyl-CoA + 1,2-diacylglycerol = CoA + triacylglycerol.
Catalytic ActivityAcyl-CoA + retinol = CoA + retinyl ester.
Enzyme RegulationInhibited by niacin.
FunctionEssential acyltransferase that catalyzes the terminal and only committed step in triacylglycerol synthesis by using diacylglycerol and fatty acyl CoA as substrates. Required for synthesis and storage of intracellular triglycerides. Probably plays a central role in cytosolic lipid accumulation. In liver, is primarily responsible for incorporating endogenously synthesized fatty acids into triglycerides (By similarity). Functions also as an acyl-CoA retinol acyltransferase (ARAT).
PathwayGlycerolipid metabolism; triacylglycerol biosynthesis.
Sequence CautionSequence=BAD38635.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Evidence= ; Sequence=CAD38961.1; Type=Erroneous initiation; Evidence= ;
SimilarityBelongs to the diacylglycerol acyltransferase family.
Subcellular LocationEndoplasmic reticulum membrane ; Multi-pass membrane protein {ECO
SubunitForms multimeric complexes consisting of several DGAT2 subunits.
Tissue SpecificityPredominantly expressed in liver and white adipose tissue. Expressed at lower level in mammary gland, testis and peripheral blood leukocytes. Expressed in sebaceous glands of normal skin but decreased psoriatic skin.
